Sex Offender Address Verification

The new Sex Offender Address and Residency Verification Program is a statewide effort that was started in July of 2008. Because of the new program, Okanogan County received funding for a full time detective who deals mainly with sex offenders. In Okanogan County we now have been able to make face to face contact with every registered sex offender. Not only does this make sure that the registered sex offender is at the address he reported to law enforcement it also allows us to take DNA samples for the law enforcement database.

Some of the duties include:

  • initial registration and classification of new offenders which includes fingerprints,
  • photograph and risk level classification
  • preparation and distribution of community notifications
  • change of address when offenders move
  • annual address verification for Level 1 offenders
  • 90 day address verification for Level 2 and Level 3 offenders
  • input and maintenance of the Sheriff's Office website for level 3 offenders
  • documentation and apprehension of SOR violations
  • answer questions from the general public regarding offenders and their locations
  • respond to requests from DOC, CPS and Support Center regarding offenders and their known locations

Because we have been able to work on it full time, several of our Sex Offenders were found in violations, several were arrested or had warrants issued for them. In Okanogan County we currently have 144 registered sex offenders.

We also receive a lot of questions on the classifications of Sex Offenders and what can and can not be put out to the public. Listed below is the Classification of Sex Offenders
