.
Five months ago a group of Okanogan County citizens started the rigorous and intensive Law Enforcement Reserve Academy sponsored by the Sheriff's Office. On Saturday, 05-02-09, in front of friends and family, ten new Reserve Officers proudly accepted their badges, Oaths of Offices and will join the local law enforcement ranks.
The 220 hour training regime consisted of the same elements that full time officers receive at the State Police Academy. Criminal law, emergency vehicle operation, firearms, defensive tactics, patrol procedures, are a few of the topics that the recruits must master. .
They and their families should be very proud of their accomplishment. We are very proud and are happy to have them on board. I also want to thank all of the instructors who helped teach all of the classes for the last five months.
Special credit goes to Sgt. Gene Davis, who put the Reserve Academy together. To ensure that the class was a success required a great deal of his time and effort in addition to his regular duties.

12-10-08 LAW ENFORCEMENT RESERVE ACADEMY STARTS
On Saturday, 12-06-08 the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office started up the new Law Enforcement Reserve Academy. The intensive 220 hour Reserve Deputy Academy kicked off last week with twelve ambitious candidates. A Reserve Deputy or Police Officer basically goes through the same training as a full time law enforcement officer. These cadets have to complete the training on nights and weekends. It's a huge commitment and my hats off to anyone who successfully completes the program.
A Reserve Officer can be a great asset to any department or agency at special events, major crime scenes, and on patrol. This group is slated to graduate sometime in April of 2009 and will be volunteer officers with Tonasket Police Department, Brewster Police Department
