"KOBI"

Kobi is seen here with his handler Deputy Kevin Arnold. Kobi is a  "Gray" German Shepard from East Germany. Kobi has been trained in "Shutzhund" which is German for (protection dog), tracking and obedience. Kobi is on Patrol in the North County area.

 

 

 

 

Fredy is the latest addition to the Sheriff Patrol K-9 program. Fredy is a 2 1/2 year old black and tan German Shepard from the Czech Republic. Fredy was purchased and trained with Deputy Gene Davis at Mid-Michigan Kennels. Fredy is now on patrol in the South County area.

Narcotics Detection Program

 

Currently the Sheriff's Office now has 2 dedicated Narcotics Detection  K-9s  serving Okanogan County.  Deputy Kevin Kinman with K-9 Jake and Deputy Laura Wright with K-9 Echo.

 

 

K-9 Jake is a 3 year old Pointer, Lab, Dalmatian mix. Jake came from an Everett humane society in Sept 2003. Jake was introduced to the K-9 program at McNeil Island Correctional Center and was put through an accelerated narcotic's class. Jake worked with a Dept of Correction's K-9 Handler for three months before being returned to McNeil for the next class. Deputy Kinman and K-9 Jake were teamed up together at the narcotic canine training program and  graduated from the six week course as a team in February 2004.

"ECHO"

  Echo is a 7 year old Belgian Malinois that has been working for the Department since 2002. Deputy Laura Wright and K-9 Echo attended the McNeil Island K-9 Handler's Class in the fall of 2006 and graduated in November. This was the second time through for Echo, who graduated "top dog" in the class.

"FRED"

In Fond Memory

Narcotics Detection K-9 Fred has officially retired. Fred began his career with the Sheriff's Office on May 31st 1996 and was retired on March 12th 2003. Fred will now be living in comfort with his handler Kevin Newport and family in the Omak area. Over the span of his career, Fred has been a valuable and trusted member of the Sheriff's Office. Fred's friendly tail wagging ways and drug sniffing expertise will be missed by all.

 

   

 

"IRON"

In Fond Memory

 After eight years of service to the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office and two years of peaceful retirement K-9 Iron passed away on January 24th 2005.   "It's very tough losing my partner" says Iron's handler Dave Rodriguez "but I feel very honored to have worked with him and hope our new handlers get to experience the same kind of bond Iron and I had."  Plans are underway to erect a memorial to all Sheriff's Office dogs who have passed away.
 

 

"LUCY"

 After five years of service to the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office Lucy was retired when her handler Carrie Port left the Sheriff's Office to continue her career with District Court Probation in January of 2008. Carrie and Lucy attended the 6 week Narcotics K-9 Handler Class at McNeil Island. Carrie and Lucy bonded well together and Lucy has retired and is living with Carrie peacefully.
