Okanogan County has 1,499,059 acres of U.S. Forest Service land inside its borders. This land is open to the public and is an oasis for thousands of visitors every year. The year around outdoor activities are endless.

The Sheriff's Office goals are to make the woods fun and safe for all. The Forest Deputy is assigned to patrol U.S. Forest Service campgrounds, trail heads, forest roads, snow parks, groomed snowmobile trials and the 2,387 miles of maintained trails.

Okanogan County has 2 Wilderness areas, the Sawtooth and Pasayten Wilderness areas. Both Wilderness areas are natural and pristine.

A large portion of the search and rescue missions in Okanogan County take the Sheriff's Office to U.S. Forest Service lands. Be sure to plan ahead when visiting these lands and take care to avoid injury and above all be prepared.
