Located in the City of Okanogan, the Okanogan County
Sheriff's Office Central Dispatch is manned 24 hours a day 7 days a
week. Dispatch is the nerve center and facilitator of communications
between the public and the emergency service providers.
Communications officers perform as call takers for 22
incoming phone lines, 5 incoming E911 lines and 1 TDD phone for
hearing/speech impaired.
Fire dispatch includes 14 fire districts, 17 towns and
6 rural areas and 6 Ambulance Services. EMT dispatch includes an
additional 8 agencies.
The communications radio operates 12 frequencies, utilizing 4 different
repeaters to access all areas of the county. The radio is used for
Police, Fire, Ambulance and EMT communications and dispatching throughout
the county.
All operators within the dispatch center are highly trained professionals
and are certified by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch. The
Academy promotes excellence by setting professional standards and
recognizing those Communication officers who have met them. All
Communications Officers at Okanogan County Sheriff's office are certified
in Emergency Medical Dispatching techniques/criteria's and protocols.
Communications officers use the National Academy EMD
Protocol which is a medical priority dispatch system, when they receive
medical calls. All Communications officers have met requirements for
CPR/First Aid by the American Red Cross.
The Communications officers are the public's vital link
to Okanogan County's emergency medical help, Police services, Fire and
rescue.
